After I finished a computer science degree last year, I'd planned to move to Melbourne to find a full time position in the computer industry. The computer industry's far from booming at the moment, however, and after limited success job hunting, I decided to reevaluate my options.

I'm now living in Japan, involved in a completely different field - teaching. I live in a place called Kumamoto, which is near the bottom of Japan. It's nice here.

A few months ago, this page talked about my love of computers and photography. That hasn't changed, though I don't have as much spare time as I used to, as I'm also trying to study Japanese and improve my ability to communicate with the people here.

In some ways, learning a spoken language has parallels with learning a computer language. I used to do a fair bit of programming for fun, and I'm finding that learning a spoken language, while really tough, is also very rewarding.

When I'm not studying or sitting in front of a computer, I enjoy coffee and the company of friends, and exploring the local food and drink establishments around here.
